Come with us to Lancashire, with its impressive landscapes combining rugged peaks and tranquil lakes to create an ideal backdrop for our tour. With plenty of excursions including a trip to the County Town of Lancaster, home to the Queen’s only castle in the north.

Thursday –  We collect you from your home and take you to meet your tour coach, travelling to Lancashire and arriving late afternoon at Hallmark Preston Leyland Hotel.

Friday – Today we travel north to explore the ancient city of Lancaster. Visit the castles and museums to uncover ancient stories, take a stroll to St George’s Quay, wander around the quirky boutiques and independent galleries. After some time here to grab lunch we continue north to Carnforth and Leighton Hall, the ancestral home of the renowned Gillow furniture family.

Saturday – This morning we make our way to Rawtenstall where we join the East Lancashire Railway and enjoy a ride along the Irwell Valley through pleasant countryside to Bury. There is time to look around and obtain a drink and a bite to eat before an afternoon visit to Rochdale. It was here in 1844 that the Rochdale Pioneers started the Co-op movement, still of course going strong today. We visit the museum in Toad Lane and discover how the movement grew over the years.

Sunday – Todays excursion takes us a short ride from the hotel to the Chocolate House in Blackburn. We enjoy a chocolate making demonstration, along with refreshments and samples. In the afternoon we visit historic Samlesbury Hall, a fabulous half-timbered black and white medieval house built in 1323 as a family home. A guided tour brings history to life and tells tales of intrigue and witchcraft through the centuries.

Monday – After a final breakfast in Lancashire we will return south to Wiltshire.
