The Almabtrieb is one of the main highlights of the Tyrolean festival calendar. This is when the cows come back down to the valleys from their high mountain pastures, in all of their finery. On this tour we also have included a journey on the Arosa Bahn giving you the chance to enjoy some of the unspoilt nature and mountainous ranges that Switzerland has to offer.

OUR ITINERARY

WednesdayAfter being collected from your home to meet your tour coach we will begin the journey to our overnight in Saarbrücken where there will be a welcome drink on arrival before dinner.

ThursdayFollowing breakfast we will leave Saarbrücken and continue our journey onwards to Austria and St. Anton, where we will be greeted with a welcome drink on arrival and time to settle in before dinner.

Friday - Monday we have included the following excursions:
• Today spend a day at leisure for the annual Alm Festival. The fair begins with the Almabtrieb, or closing of the mountain fields. The farmers’ herds, after spending the summer in the high mountain pastures, are decorated with spectacular head-dresses and bought down to the valley for the winter months.
• We make our way to Bregenz, framed by impressive mountain chains and nestled by Lake Constance. There is time to enjoy and explore the medieval centre of the city and to see the landmark baroque onion spire of St. Martins tower before we journey a short distance around the shore to the town of Lindau.
• Today we make a journey over one of the most beautiful Alpine passes, the Silvretta Pass, which travels round more than 30 hairpin bends. We ascend to the Silvretta Reservoir, from where we can view Piz Buin, the highest mountain in Vorarlberg. The scenery on this high road is simply unforgettable and a real highlight of the holiday.
• We join the Arosa Bahn. This lovely mountain railway takes us from the bustling town of Chur to Arosa, climbing a thousand metres in just 26km around tight curves and steep inclines.

TuesdayAfter a final breakfast in St. Anton we will journey back to our overnight in Saarbrücken where you will have a welcome drink on arrival and then dinner.

WednesdayThis morning we depart Saarbrücken and travel to Calais for our Channel crossing, following this we then continue to Westbury having suitable comfort stops on route.
