The West of Ireland in all it’s glory! Highlights of the tour include a sea-cruise under the mighty Cliffs of Moher, a scenic ocean drive and a visit to famous Galway, a bustling harbour city sitting where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. We also visit the haunting landscapes of Burren and the medieval city of Limerick. Our base for this trip is Ennistymon, a market town in County Clare, located on the River Cullenagh. It offers visitors the perfect combination of scenic beauty and Irish charm.
Sunday –We depart our local area to travel down to Pembroke for our ferry crossing to Rosslare, from here we continue west to Waterford for our overnight stop. There will be dinner served on arrival.
Monday – Today we head through the rich pastures of Kildare, home to the Irish National Stud, lyrical Limerick and through Bunratty, home to Ireland’s oldest pub ‘Durty Nellies’, before arriving in Ennistymon for a 3-night stay.
Tuesday –A truly memorable day begins with a Cliffs of Moher Cruise, sailing beneath the sheer faces of these colossal cliffs that are home to the country’s largest seabird colony and have become an iconic image for Ireland’s West Coast. Then head over to the official Cliffs of Moher Visitors Centre for breathtaking views 700 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. This afternoon we take the wonderful ocean drive past the Aran Island and head around Black Head and on to Ballyvaughan Bay.
Wednesday –Today we have included a visit to Limerick, Ireland’s third biggest city and the birth place of Sir Terry Wogan and Richard Harris and that famous five-line poem!
Thursday – First stop is the Burren Visitor Centre, where the natural history of this enchanting region is revealed. We drive through the park to discover prehistoric limestone landscapes sheltering rare species of flora and fauna. Then on to Galway, for free time exploring the ‘City of Tribes’ founded by medieval merchants.
Friday –From Co. Clare it’s not a long way to Tipperary and a visit to Cahir heritage town with its well-preserved castle built on a rocky island on the River Suir. Continue to Waterford for our last night in Ireland’s oldest city.
Saturday – Today we board our ferry back to Pembroke from Rosslare and then continue our journey back to Westbury.
Dooley’s Hotel, Waterford
Dooley’s Hotel is situated in the heart of historic Waterford City, overlooking the waterfront. The family run hotel offers guests a warm welcome and traditional Irish hospitality. All spacious en-suite bedrooms are equipped with TV, telephone a hair dryer. The hotel is unable to offer ground floor rooms but does have lift access to most floors.
Falls Hotel, Ennistymon
Located just 1 mile from Lehnich Beach, the Falls Hotel is surrounded by picturesque woodland and with views over the River Cullenagh it is a beautiful location for our stay in Ennistymon. It offers guests access to both the spa and fitness centre on site with a steam room and sauna. With two restaurants they are able to offer both traditional Irish and international food. The hotel has lift access and all 140 en-suite rooms come equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, a TV, WiFi and telephone access. There will be musical entertainment during one evening in the hotel as well as card and board games.
