Visit York for a unique Yuletide experience with it’s narrow cobbled streets, medieval buildings, historic Shambles and magnificent Minister, which all help create a magical festive atmosphere in one of Europe’s most charismatic cities. Highlight of the tour includes experiencing the magic of Christmas at Castle Howard.
Monday – Departing from your local pick-up point in the morning we travel to York, arriving late afternoon at the Queen’s Hotel for the next three nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast.
Tuesday – This morning we have a short guided tour of the city before you have the day at leisure to enjoy the festive period in the historic City of York. Within its towering medieval walls is a heart of rich and colourful character, with its history recorded in the streets, buildings and museums gathered around the mighty Minster. Explore the many unique shopping districts and major tourist attractions that York has to offer, such as the Jorvik Viking Centre and the world-famous National Railway Museum. Be sure to visit the popular St Nicholas Fair while here to browse the fantastic collection of gifts, cards and souvenirs made from across Yorkshire and beyond. The perfect festive experience to get you in the Christmas mood. Explore the bustling stalls while listening to the carol singers lining the streets.
Wednesday – After a morning at leisure we have an included visit to Castle Howard, which over the festive period is hand decorated into a magnificent Christmas experience. This enchanting home with its lavishly decorated rooms and stunning architecture, will be adorned with elegant decorations, whilst magnificent Christmas trees, decked with hundreds of baubles and lights, lead the way through the dramatic interiors, beautifully lit by fire and candlelight. We return to York late afternoon.
Thursday – We depart after breakfast for our journey home with suitable stops en-route arriving back in Wiltshire in the early evening.
Queens Hotel, York
Located in the centre of this historic city, with stunning views over the River Ouse. The hotel is accessed by 10 steps but there is a chair lift available. All rooms are well furnished & offer hairdryer, TV & tea/coffee making facilities. Bar & restaurant.
